Public Sessions
The Oakland, Calif.-based quartet recently recorded Turn Me Off and is expected to show it off come February. In the meantime, there’s a winter tour that starts Nov. 15 at Mojoe’s Rock House in Tinley Park, Ill., and ends Dec. 4 at Denver’s Marquis Theatre.
Audrye Sessions consists of singer/songwriter Ryan Karazija, bassist and former model Alicia Marie Campbell, guitarist Michael Knox and drummer James Leste.
Karazija, who built his chops both in bands and solo gigging at coffee shops, has a lilting voice. The music, however, can shift from Devendra Banhart-mellowness like their cover of Elliott Smith‘s “Waltz No. 2,” which is slowed and unwaltzed, to bouncier numbers reminiscent of pop acts like Material Issue.
The first single, “Turn Me Off,” is based on a show where James Gandolfini interviewed servicemen and women returning from war. Karazija said he was inspired by one man who lost his eyes.
“The song talks about being so messed up that you want to be shut off,” he said. An EP is already available on iTunes and in stores.
