Scar Tissue On Small Screen

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis’ childhood and relationship with his father Spider – rumored to have once be a drug dealer for acts like The Who and Led Zeppelin – is coming to the small screen as a series for HBO tentatively titled “Scar Tissue.”

The show, which is being developed as an hour-long drama with comedic elements, will kick off with Kiedis moving from Grand Rapids, Mich., to West Hollywood to live with his dad, according to Variety.

“He introduced me to the arts, to a more culturally magnificent life,” Kiedis told Variety. “But some of it was this heavy, adult matter that I wasn’t quite capable of digesting. … It was a very rich but kind of challenging period of my life. I was thrust into this adult mentality by age 11.”

The show will also focus on Los Angeles in the early 1970s, including the rock stars that Kiedis and his father bumped elbows with.

Catapult 360 partners Marc Abrams and Michael Benson, whose credits include “The Bernie Mac Show” and “Entourage,” have partnered with Kiedis to create the series.

Catapult 360 contacted the Chili Peppers frontman after Benson read the singer’s autobiography, also titled “Scar Tissue” – although the show is not based on the book.

Abrams, Benson and Kiedis will executive produce the proposed show along with Untitled Entertainment’s Jason Weinberg. Untitled’s Laura Rister will also be involved, according to Variety.

Abrams and Benson are looking for a script writer and Kiedis is reminiscing with his father to record memories of their West Hollywood life 30 years ago.

“I love mulling over all this raw material,” he told Variety. “[My father’s] into it too. He sees it as our last great hurrah. For us to be reconnecting to construct these memories – the women and the rock bands and the doormen of these clubs – is exciting.”

Kiedis plans to be heavily involved in the series, with the possibility of narrating “Scar Tissue” and even making a couple of cameos.
