Beatles Online? Not This Year
“The last word I got back was it’s stalled at the whole moment, the whole process,” Paul McCartney said, adding, “I really hope it will happen because I think it should.”
So far, The Beatles’ holding company, Apple Corps Ltd, has refused to allow the music that changed a generation to enter the online age.
What’s more, Apple Corps’ dispute over the years with a certain Cupertino, Calif., computer company over the name “Apple” hasn’t exactly fast-tracked the Fab Four’s journey from CD to download. Although the Apples resolved their differences last year, and even though you can buy each bandmember’s post-Beatles work online, Netizens have yet to encounter Beatles For Sale in MP3 form.
Kind of ironic, isn’t it? The band that led the pop revolution more than 40 years ago has yet to embrace today’s digital revolution. When The Beatles finally make it to the online services, the band will be following in the binary footsteps of others rather than leading the pack. Makes you wonder what Brian Epstein would say, doesn’t it?
