Charlotte’s Mr. Bojangles

The original Charlotte Coliseum has yet another name.

The aging arena in North Carolina has been dubbed Bojangles’ Coliseum, named after Charlotte-based Bojangles’ Restaurants Inc., which paid $1.25 million over 10 years for the naming rights.

The Coliseum, which opened in 1955, has been known as the Charlotte Coliseum, Independence Arena (when the new Charlotte Coliseum opened in 1988) and Cricket Arena.

The 10,000-capacity facility has continued to be referred as Cricket Arena despite the naming rights agreement ending in 2005. Bojangles’ Restaurants have 426 locations throughout the Southwest.

The Coliseum, which has hosted Elvis Presley to Queen to the “Hannah Montana” tour over the years, has 3 Doors Down, Monster Truck Winter Nationals and Carolina Speed among its upcoming events.
