Dupri Sues Atlanta Club For Im-Pure Promotion

Producer and Janet Jackson arm-candy Jermaine Dupri has filed a civil suit in Atlanta against Elite Entertainment and promoter Binyam Yayine.

The suit, filed Dec. 9, reportedly accuses Elite and Yayine of using Dupri’s name to promote an event called “All Black Affair” at Pure Atlanta nightclub in November.

According to the online All Headline News service and other bloggers, Dupri manager Nick Leo received a request from the promoter two days before the scheduled event asking Dupri to make an appearance at the club. Leo declined on Dupri’s behalf, saying the producer would be out of the country.

Apparently Dupri’s name was used to promote the event anyway, and hilarity did not ensue – but a lawsuit did.

Dupri, according to AHN, accuses Pure, Elite Entertainment and Yayine of violating his right of publicity, unfair competition, false advertising, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. He’s seeking a permanent injunction preventing the misuse of his name, image and likeness as well as punitive damages and reimbursement of legal fees.
