Stooges Guitarist Dies

The Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, 60, was found dead at his home in Ann Arbor, Mich., Jan. 6, police said.

Police received a call from the guitarist’s personal assistant requesting that officers check on Asheton after being unable to reach him for days, according to the Ann Arbor News.

Officers entered the house and found Asheton, who reportedly appeared to have been dead for several days. Detective Sgt. Jim Stephenson told the paper foul play was not suspected and autopsy and toxicology results are forthcoming.

Asheton had reconnected with The Stooges in recent years, following the band’s breakup in the ‘70s. In 2007, the band set out on a tour in support of a new album, The Weirdness.
