‘Tis The Season For Awards

Carrie Underwood walked away with three trophies at the 35th annual People’s Choice Awards, winning in the 2008 categories for best female singer, best country song for “Last Name” and star under 35.

Chris Brown claimed two prizes – for best male singer and the combined forces award for his part on the Jordin Sparks song “No Air.”

Other music awards winners include Alicia Keys for R&B song “No One,” Katy Perry for pop song “I Kissed a Girl,” Kid Rock for rock song “All Summer Long” and Flo Rida featuring T-Pain for hip-hop song “Low.” Best song from a soundtrack went to “Mamma Mia” from the namesake movie.

Rascal Flatts took home the award for favorite group of 2008. The country pop group has teamed with People’s Choice to offer fans the chance to create and vote on cover art for its sixth studio album, Unstoppable, set for release April 7.

Fans and artists have until Jan. 22 to get submissions in at the People’s Choice Web site, pcaVOTE.com. Rascal Flatts will narrow down submissions and pick their favorites, giving fans the chance to decide between top entries Jan. 28. The winning designer and image will be announced in February.

In other awards news, Beyoncé Knowles, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson are battling it out for NAACP Image Awards, which honors diversity in the arts. The three stars received nominations in both music and film categories Jan. 7.

Hudson earned seven nods overall, Knowles has six and Keys was honored with four.

Knowles, Keys and Hudson were all nominated for outstanding female music artist and for best music video.

In the category of best supporting film actress, Keys and Hudson were nominated for “The Secret Life of Bees” and Knowles earned a nom for “Cadillac Records.”

Other nominees include Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Diddy.

Al Gore has already been announced as one of the two winners of 2008’s Chairman Award, according to E! Online.

The NAACP Image Awards will be presented at a Feb. 12 ceremony.
