Beacon Theatre’s Sound Of Simon

The Beacon Theatre reopening is already drawing rock royalty for early gigs, and MSG Entertainment has announced a jewel of a show to crown the festivities. Celebrated singer/songwriter and seminal New Yorker Paul Simon will debut the restored venue with two concerts.

The historic theatre swings open its door for Simon and the public Feb. 13 and 14, with tickets going on sale at 9 a.m. Jan. 25. The shows will be the first since the completion of the $15 million, 7-month restoration project.

“The Beacon is one of New York’s most beloved and historic venues and we are proud that the restoration has returned it to its original grandeur,” said James Dolan, chairman of Madison Square Garden and president/CEO of parent Cablevision Systems Corp.

“Following our restoration of Radio City Music Hall and our upcoming renovation of Madison Square Garden, our state of the art venues in New York City will continue to create memorable experiences for all of our patrons.”

And Simon, a favorite son of the Big Apple, is only the first of many high-profile shows to help the Beacon Theatre celebrate.

Among those lining up to play are rock poet laureate Leonard Cohen, making his first U.S. appearance in 15 years Feb. 19, a B.B. King/Buddy Guy co-bill Feb. 21, and the ultimate shakedown cruise with The Allman Brothers Band returning for their legendary Beacon residency, a 10-date run March 9-21.
