The Chicago-based collective has been quietly building into a major attraction for years and has moved beyond the “jam band” branding – if for no other reason than for their totally cool rendition of “Dick In A Box” at their 2006 New Year’s Eve show.

The band takes their two-years-in-the-making album out on the road starting Jan. 22 and doesn’t go home again until after May 1. The trip includes three nights in Minneapolis; two in Atlanta, Birmingham, Indianapolis, New York City and New Orleans and a four-night stand at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wis. There’s also dates in Tulsa, Buffalo, Baltimore and more.

And feel free to bring your taping equipment. Umphrey’s McGee has an open-taping policy that allows for music sharing. The band has released soundboard recordings of each of its concerts since 2001.
