Saudi Concert Too Rockin’
The man, identified only as a Saudi businessman who runs a fun park in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca – the most holy city of Islam – was sentenced to four months in prison and 200 lashes, the daily Okaz reported Jan. 27, according to Agence France-Presse.
The man was arrested after arguing with agents from the religious police who ordered him to end the concert. A court reportedly found him guilty of hindering the work of the agents of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, known as Muttawa, AFP said.
The businessman was also found guilty of being involved in “organizing a concert where men and women mixed.”
Saudi Arabia imposes a strict version of sharia, or Islamic law, which imposes sexual segregation.
