Dube Suspects Plead Not Guilty
The three faced charges of murder with aggravated circumstances, robbery and hijacking at the Johannesburg high court, Agence France Presse reported.
They’re accused of killing the musician outside his brother’s house in southern Johannesburg in October 2007 in what is believed to be a botched hijacking.
Gunmen reportedly unloaded three shots at close range, killing Dube in front of his two children. The murder has brought calls to reinstate the death penalty in a country with one of the world’s highest murder rates.
Dube recorded more than 20 albums – in Zulu, English and Afrikaans – and was one of the first to bring reggae to South Africa.
