Credit Crunch Disconnects Hydro

The credit crunch is being blamed for the scrapping of this year’s Hydro Connect Festival, a 2-year-old event staged on the grounds of Inveraray Castle in Scotland.

Geoff Ellis, who runs the Scottish festival, once described the site as “the most beautiful in the U.K.” but has encountered “very high infrastructure and servicing costs” in producing a festival in Argyll.

The route to the 20,000-capacity site passes along the west side of Loch Lomond and on to the breathtaking views at Rest And Be Thankful, a spot where English soldiers would do just that after avoiding being killed by bloodthirsty Jacobites.

Acts that previously played Hydro Connect include Manic Street Preachers, Franz Ferdinand and Glasvegas.
