Jay P. Richardson, son of J.P. Richardson Jr., is reaching out to his father’s fans for help.

“The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame lists ‘Chantilly Lace’ as one of the 500 ‘Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll,’” Richardson said in a statement, “but Dad hasn’t been inducted with Buddy [Holly] and Ritchie [Valens].”

The Big Bopper, Holly and Valens died in a plane crash February 3, 1959, and Jay P. was born 84 days later. He tours with the Winter Dance Party tribute show, where he meets original fans of his father plus their children and grandchildren.

“E-mails from teenagers in places like Holland or Australia arrive weekly, saying their parents or grandparents loved the music and passed that love to them,” Richardson said. “These young fans will keep Dad’s memory alive – his music cuts across age and cultural boundaries.”

The Big Bopper also had hits with “Running Bear,” “White Lightnin’” and “Beggar To A King.” Film and stage productions of The Big Bopper’s story are in the works.
