Rothbury On

Rothbury Festival 2009 is on, and returning to the Double JJ Ranch site in Michigan after months of speculation over the site’s legal status. The festival is confirmed July 2-5 with lineups and ticket onsale info coming soon.

The host resort was the subject of a bankruptcy dispute just as the 2008 debut festival wrapped to rave reviews. Organizers have said all along they hoped the proceedings would have no effect on the future use of the Double JJ, and it appears that’s been the case.

Rothbury brings back its social and environmental mission, and will build on last year’s themes of climate change and clean energy solutions, according to organizers. On the festival grounds, there will be expanded Rothbury “think tank” activities and festival implementation of new technologies in the interest of energy independence.

“Rothbury is proud to host a community of conscious and involved fans who strive for a better future,” said festival producer Jeremy Stein in a statement. “We’re also extremely grateful for the support of our local neighbors and the greater Michigan community. Together, we’re raising the bar.”

Jointly produced by Madison House Presents and AEG Live, the camping festival was a big hit in 2008 and received a nomination as Pollstar’s Outdoor Festival of the Year.

The inaugural Rothbury festival sported a top-notch lineup including the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Keller Williams, The Wailers and Yonder Mountain String Band.

It also featured philanthropic programs and on-site festival initiatives including Rothbury’s Music in School Program, Solar Schools Program, a food drive and the Conscious Alliance Can Sculpture as well as greening and sustainability initiatives.
