Police said the 48-year-old man made friends with the woman at a Tampa hotel by saying he was Cory James, the drummer for Foreigner. The band has had several drummers over the years but none by that name.

The pair met later at the Clearwater Hilton, where police said the reported conman talked a valet into giving him the woman’s Corvette without her knowledge.

He drove off in the car and eventually crashed, then took off on foot. A police dog tracked him down.

The man was arrested on multiple charges, including grand theft, and is being held on $27,900 bail.
