In the case of Chris Brown, who is suspected of beating girlfriend (ex-girlfriend?) Rihanna bloody last week, the singer says he is “sorry and saddened” for his actions and will seek counseling from his pastor and loved ones.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person,” Brown said through his publicist.

Brown also said not everything printed about him during the past week has been true.

“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong,” Brown said, but did not elaborate.

Here is what is known:

On Saturday, Feb. 7 – the night before the Grammy Awards – Brown and Rihanna left a pre-Grammy party. According to police, the couple started arguing shortly after leaving the party. Brown eventually pulled the car over and that’s when the fireworks started. People in the area called the police, but officers arrived after Brown had already left the scene.

The next night – Grammy Night – Brown and Rihanna notify the Recording Academy that neither will appear nor perform on the show as previously planned. Later that night Brown surrendered to police and was released on $50,000 bond after being booked for investigation for making a criminal threat.

Because of the nature of the incident – a possible domestic violence case – police did not identify Rihanna by name. But by midday Feb. 8 – the day after the Grammys – media reports were suggesting Rihanna was the alleged victim.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County District Attorney is still considering additional charges against Brown.

And now Brown says he’s sorry and he will seek counseling. But whether he’s sorry for Rihanna’s bruises, or if he’s just sorry he screwed up his career big time has yet to be determined.
