Stars Aid Fire Victims

Some major international stars have thrown their weight behind those affected by Australia’s deadly wildfires, which have killed more than 200 people.

Pink, whose “Funhouse” mid-year Australian tour will play to 370,000 fans over 37 shows for Michael Coppel Presents, donated $250,000.

Dutch violinist André Rieu, a phenomenon downunder, wrote an instrumental called “Yours Forever” and recorded it with the Johann Strauss Orchestra.

Roberta Flack extended her Australian tour to play a Feb. 19 benefit show in Melbourne before returning to the United States.
Media speculation says that Coldplay, Kings Of Leon and Robbie Williams will join a star-studded mid-March show that promoters Michael Gudinski and Michael Chugg will stage simultaneously in Melbourne and Sydney.

Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen green-lighted tracks for a Sony Music Australia compilation called “Bushfire Aid,” including 20 artists such as Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus and Delta Goodrem.

At least 25 fund-raising concerts by venues, artists and songwriters were held the week after the fires started in early February.

In addition, Jimmy Barnes released a live album through iTunes priced at $3.39, while The Living End played a number of relief camps and handed out hundreds of T-shirts, as did a number of country performers.
