The artist who took the world for a walk down “Baker Street” in 1978 and got “Stuck In The Middle” in ‘72, was reported missing, according to London’s Daily Mail.

Now the word is the ‘70s star has been located. However, which country the singer is in is a matter of which U.K. paper you read.

The same paper that reported him missing – the Daily Mail – now says Rafferty is alive and well, but doesn’t specify the country. Instead, the paper quotes Rafferty’s lawyer, Russell Roberts, as saying he met with Rafferty during the afternoon of Feb. 13.

However, the Glasgow Evening Times says Rafferty is in Italy, and the paper sources that information to … an unnamed lawyer representing the singer.

Speculation about the singer’s whereabouts started to gain traction when friends of Rafferty told reporters they had not seen the artist since he discharged himself from a London hospital six months ago. Published reports indicate Rafferty was hospitalized for liver problems.

After leaving St. Thomas’ Hospital, Rafferty supposedly holed up in London’s five-star Westbury Hotel. It was there the Daily Mail claimed staffers asked the singer to leave after they discovered his room was “soaked in blood and urine.”

Rafferty has had a history of alcohol problems, apparently dating back several years.

During the early 70s Rafferty was a member of Stealers Wheel and sang on the group’s hit, “Stuck In The Middle Of You,” which experienced a resurgence of sorts when Quentin Tarantino used it in “Reservoir Dogs” as background music for one of the film’s more memorable scenes.

Rafferty also enjoyed solo success with his 1978 album City to City, which included the smash single “Baker Street.” Several years ago Rafferty said “Baker Street” alone accounted for about £80,000 ($113,853.98) in annual income.
