Sir Elton John has committed to supervise music and act as executive producer for a Jane Austen-style period drama called “Pride and Predator,” according to Variety.

Now here’s the juicy part; It features an invading race of aliens. You read that right. Aliens.

Sir Elton’s hubby David Furnish, who’ll produce the pic, told Variety the story will drop an “alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect.”

Why pick on poor Jane Austen? Aside from getting revenge for the thousands (or possibly millions) of boyfriends who’ve had to suffer through untold film versions of Austen’s work that is. As it happens, that’s exactly Furnish’s motive.

“It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre.”

Take that Jane Austen book club!

The movie will be directed by Will Clark, who lensed the 2007 fairytale short “The Amazing Trousers.”

While the idea admittedly sounds completely off the rails at first, fans of Hammer Studios gothic work in the ’60s and ’70s are sure to be on board.

No word on whether Reese Witherspoon or Keira Knightley are signed on to be torn to shreds.
