Seinfeld will act as producer for a new “comic reality” series about marriage.

“The Marriage Ref,” will feature real spouses whose happy home is not so. A celebrity panel will weigh in on the couple’s spat and a yet-to-be-named host, the titular ref, will rule on which of the two is right.

Sound hilarious? Possibly.

Seinfeld, who hasn’t said whether he’ll appear on the series, issued a statement stressing the fact that the show is meant to be a comedy, not a therapy show.

If Seinfeld is so sure audiences will buy into the concept, why does he feel the need to clarify its purpose?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see. But it sounds like “Divorce Court” MST3K-style to me.
