Maybe that’s why they’re calling the tour “Unwigged & Unplugged.” Instead of Tap’s Tufnel, St. Hubbins and Smalls, you get Guest, McKean and Shearer. No wigs, no power, but plenty of music and laughs. Heck, we can’t wait to hear how “Sex Farm,” “Big Bottom” and the classic “Stonehenge” sound stripped of any electronic enhancement.

But that’s just the Spinal Tap side of this tour for there are plenty of songs The Folksmen can play from “The Mighty Wind” soundtrack. Great songs like “Old Joe’s Place,” “Loco Man” and “Skeletons Of Quinto.” Heck, this tour gives you the music of two bands performed by three guys playing their hearts out for you and yours when they roll into your town. You can’t buy entertainment like this.

Well, actually, you can. Tickets begin to go on sale for the six-week, 30-city tour called “Unwigged & Unplugged: An Evening with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean & Harry Shearer” on Friday, March 6.

Which cities and venues will be blessed by this genius of a tour? It kicks off in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the Center for the Performing Arts on April 17 and runs through May 31 in Milwaukee at the Riverside Theatre. In between stops include Los Angeles on April 26 at The Wiltern; Denver on April 29 at the Paramount Theatre; Dallas on May 2 at the Nokia and Toronto on May 21 at Massey Hall. Other stops include Nashville, Orlando, Miami, New York City, Chicago, Phoenix and Cleveland.

“With this being the 25th anniversary of the film “This Is Spinal Tap,” we thought this would be a fun and at the same time, a little challenging, as we have never performed as ourselves,” said Guest, McKean and Shearer in a statement. “Think of the evening as three old friends playing songs in your living room. As opposed to OUR living rooms; we won’t be home.”
