Following last year’s Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo and Osaka, promoter Creativeman Productions hinted that the 10th anniversary of the event in 2009 would expand from two days to three.
The company confirmed the three-day format for Aug. 7-9 in both Osaka and Tokyo, and announced the headliners as well as a good portion of the acts.
The headliners will be Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Nine Inch Nails, all of which have played the festival in the past.
Others include The Specials, The Flaming Lips, Aphex Twin, CSS, The Enemy, Girl Talk, Klaxons, Lady Gaga, Mogwai, Paramore, Placebo, Sonic Youth, Soulwax and Teenage Fanclub.
When the festival was a two-day event, the artists playing at the Osaka site and those playing at the Tokyo site on Saturday simply changed places on Sunday.
Creativeman has not yet announced how it will carry out the logistical switch with a three-day schedule.
