One of the most talked-about events last year was Morrison’s two appearances at the Hollywood Bowl where the Irish minstrel, accompanied by 14-piece band, performed his 1968 classic album, Astral Weeks, in its entirety.

Now California residents get a rerun when the singer performs the album from cover-to-cover, along with other gems from his catalog, May 2 & 3 in Berkeley at the University of California’s Greek Theatre, and on May 7, 8 and 9 in Los Angeles at the Orpheum Theatre.

The shows will take place almost a full month after Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl arrives in stores on April 7.

Accompanying Morrison will be an orchestral string section and a band composed of “world-class musicians,” including guitarist Jay Berliner, who played on the Astral Weeks recording sessions over 40 years ago.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 29, with the Los Angeles gigs going up at 10 a.m. and the Berkeley shows start selling at 1 p.m. A presale for American Express cardmembers starts March 25 and runs through March 28.

“These concerts give me a welcome opportunity to perform these songs the way I originally intended them to be,” Morrison said. “These songs are timeless and as fresh today as the day they were written.”
