Jazz Bakery Looks For New Room

Southern California’s esteemed Jazz Bakery is shutting down in May but hopes to re-emerge soon after.

The 178-capacity club in Culver City closes May 31, with upcoming performances expected from Eric Reed Trio, Dwight Trible and Russell Malone, among others. Owner Ruth Price made it clear to Pollstar the club will relocate, although where it will reappear is uncertain.

The venue’s lease runs out at the end of May and Price was just notified it will not be renewed. The Jazz Bakery has been at its current location for more than 15 years.

Its name comes from when it was a small room next to Helms Bakery where guests would watch local jazz while sitting in white plastic chairs, according to the Los Angeles Times.
