Metric Takes Fantasies On The Road

There’s nothing like summer fantasies, and Metric has an entire CD worth. Now the band says it will take those fantasies on the road starting June 4 in Seattle.

Of course, Fantasies is the name of the band’s fourth full-length studio album, and the June tour is the first string of dates officially backing the new effort.

What’s more, starting today you can purchase the new album at iTunes two weeks ahead of its April 14 street date. You can also listen to a full preview of the album at the band’s Web site.

The first date on the band’s U.S. tour is June 4 at Seattle’s Showbox at the Market. Other dates include June 5 in Portland at Wonder Ballroom; June 6 in San Francisco at Live 105 BFD; June 8 in Los Angeles at The Wiltern and June 11 in Denver at the Ogden Theatre.

Other cities on the band’s routing sheet include San Diego, Minneapolis, Lawrence, Kan., Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, New York, D.C. and Philadelphia.

Around mid-March Metric’s vocalist, Emily Haines, described the creation process and how Fantasies came about.

“Writing for me comes from a process of trying to piece things together. The function of music in my life is to help me understand what the hell is happening. This new record was about ending the fragmentation of my existence. Everything in the world right now — all the technology, the way we listen to music or watch films — everything has changed so much in my lifetime. People are allowed to have multiple identities — you’re somebody online, you’re somebody else in public — in multiple dimensions, scattered across the world… I wanted to bring all that into one place, one band, one record… I want to be one person.”

Metric recently completed a video with director Frank Borin for the band’s next single – “Gimme Sympathy.” What makes the vid rather unique is that it was shot in one continuous take. But you gotta wonder how many false starts Metric and Borin experienced before they had a keeper.
