Thornton and his band, The Boxmasters, were interviewed by CBC’s Q Show host Jian Ghomeshi earlier this month to promote a number of Canadian tour dates opening for Willie Nelson. After Ghomeshi made the outrageous, out of control mistake of introducing Thornton as an “Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor and director,” Thornton loses it and proceeds to give the most nonsensical answers possible. He refused to play drums on air and then insulted Canadian audiences, calling them “mashed potatoes without gravy.”

But it’s a different story on the “Jimmy Kimmel Show.” Thornton doesn’t freak out when Kimmel introduces him as “an Oscar winner and a musician,” and tells the audience “you know him from many films.”

Thornton also doesn’t apologize for his radio interview behavior, instead explaining that he’s amazed the clip became a YouTube hit.

“First of all, the fact that that was news was astounding to me,” Thornton told Kimmel. “But it gave humpback geeks all over the world something to do for a couple days.”

Humpback geeks? Huh? Like humpback whales? Or the Hunchback of Notre Dame?

Thornton then explains that the interview was nothing special because he does that sort of thing all the time. He recalls an interview with a German DJ who also said something she wasn’t supposed to say. Because she broke the rules, he answered one of her questions by saying he has a steel plate from Venus in his head.

Now that would explain a couple things! Then again, isn’t that planet named after the goddess of love? I don’t see Billy Bob as a very loving guy.

Thornton then blames the Marines for the video becoming a YouTube sensation.

“If the captain from that pirate abduction had been rescued that day, no one would know anything about [the interview],” Thornton said.

“So you’re blaming the Marines?” Kimmel asked? “Yes.”

Seriously, Billy Bob is the weirdest ever.
