HP Pavilion’s Jirik Dies

Frank Jirik, 69, who oversaw the construction of, managed and brought entertainment to the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., died April 30.

Jiric was diagnosed with lymphoma six years ago. In 1990, Jirik became chief negotiator between the San Jose Sharks and the city, then oversaw all aspects of construction and design of the arena.

He was responsible for bringing acts like Elton John, The Rolling Stones, The Three Tenors, Garth Brooks and Barbra Streisand to the building, and negotiated long-term agreements with family shows like Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey Circus and Disney on Ice.
