Will.i.am Leaps Into Film

Crossing from music to film is a perilous undertaking. Lets face it, Madonna could start a second career as poster child for outlawing it.

The latest musician to attempt a crossover is Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, who has already conquered performing, writing and producing.

The singer will make his big-screen debut Friday when Hugh Jackman’s highly anticipated film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” opens.

In the movie, will.i.am plays John Wraith, also known as Kestrel, a teleporter with a love of explosives who’s been given an age-suppressing drug. Wraith and Wolverine become friends while on a mission to Africa and then reconnect years later to hunt down some answers.

The BEP frontman trades in his dreads for a cowboy hat as John Wraith, aka Kestrel.

For X-Men fans wondering if will.i.am has the acting chops to keep up with Jackman’s Wolverine, Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth, Dominic Monaghan’s Bolt and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, the singer has some news – so is he.

“I’m nervous to see my performance,” he explained. “My participation in it automatically lends itself to: That dude messed the film up.

“This film showed me what I’m capable of doing, and I’m capable of letting go,” he said, referring to having to relinquish the control he has in the studio. “Now I’ve got to let go and watch it. I know it’s going to be dope, I just don’t know if I’m going to be that dope.”

Jackman, who also acted as producer on the movie, has no doubts about will.i.am’s ability to bring Wraith to life.

“I thought it was a great way for him to come into the movies because both of them are the coolest cats on the planet,” Jackman said. “What Will has that’s unmistakable is screen presence.”
