It’s been 24 years since Souther has toured. To put all those years in perspective, the last time he ventured onto the road Ronald Reagan was president, Madonna toured for the first time and the first “Back To The Future” movie was released.

But you can’t talk about Ol’ JD without mentioning the Eagles. The performer has co-written several songs for the band, including ”New Kid In Town” and “Best Of My Love.” “How Long,” the first single issued from the Eagles’ latest album – Long Road Out Of Eden – was written and first recorded by Souther. Furthermore, he has another connection of sorts to Don Henley and Glenn Frey that makes him even more Eagles-worthy.

Like Frey, Souther was born in Detroit, and like Henley, he grew up in Texas. In fact, it was the Detroit connection that helped form the friendship between Souther and Frey when the two artists first hooked up in Los Angeles in the late ‘60s.

Souther’s latest album – If The World Was You – was released last year and is his first studio album since 1984’s Home By Dawn.

But enough of the history. Time to get to the dates. Touring with Jill Sobule warming up the audiences, the first date on the schedule is May 27 in Londonderry, NH, at Tupelo Music Hall.

From there it’s New York City at City Winery on May 28 and the Center For The Arts in Natik, Mass., on May 29.

June dates include Knuckleheads Saloon in Kansas City, Mo., on the 4th. June 6 finds the tour in Dallas at Sons of Hermann Hall and June 7 is Austin at Threadgill’s World HQ.

Other stops include San Diego (June 10); San Juan Capistrano (June 11); Los Angeles (June 13); Santa Barbara (June 14) San Francisco (June 15) and Denver (June 17).
