Spinal Tap Drops Glastonbury Hint

Parody metal band Spinal Tap is claiming it will play this year’s Glastonbury Festival, 25 years after the release of classic mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap.”

Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer will be rocking the festival’s Unwigged And Unplugged stage, according to an interview in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Twenty-five years ago as David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls, they appeared in the comedy classic “This Is Spinal Tap,” showcasing tunes like “Big Bottom” and “Listen To The Flower People.”

“We originally thought about doing a full-blown ‘Tap’ tour this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the film’s release,” Guest told the paper. “But that would have been a very big deal in terms of show production, requiring a lot of effects, two 18-wheelers full of equipment, and a tour bus,” he explained, although a show at London’s Wembley Arena has been added for June 30.

The band reformed in 2007 to play the Live Earth Concert at Wembley Stadium to increase awareness of global warming.

This year’s Glastonbury (June 24-28) has sold out.

The acts confirmed so far include Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Blur, Neil Young, Kasabian, Doves, White Lies, Echo And The Bunnymen, Fleet Foxes, Lily Allen, The Ting Tings and Franz Ferdinand.
