Eminem Taking Autoworkers To Jimmy Kimmel Show

Looks like the Real Slim Shady has a new posse – 200 laid-off Detroit autoworkers will accompany the rapper when he travels to Los Angeles this week to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Eminem is flying the workers to Los Angeles for Friday’s taping of Kimmel’s show. A representative of the Detroit rapper said Eminem and Kimmel want to show support for the Detroit community, reports the Detroit Free Press.

There’s no denying Detroit could use some support. With Chrysler filing for bankruptcy and GM rumored soon to do the same, the Motown of today is a far cry from the days when American automobiles ruled the roadways.

Eminem’s Friday appearance is the first of three stops he’ll make on Kimmel’s show this month with the other two scheduled for the 19th and 22nd. It’s all part of a media blitz to prime the fans for next Tuesday’s release of Relapse, Eminem’s first studio album in more than four years.

Details as to how the autoworkers will be selected have yet been made public, but Eminem’s publicist did say they will be members of the United Auto Workers union.

The rapper is also planning on doing a “secret” show in Detroit in the near future, and his new autoworker buddies will each get a pair of tickets to the performance.

“In all the media coverage Detroit is getting, everyone forgets about the people that have lost their jobs without getting big cash payouts after dedicating themselves to the auto industry,” Eminem told the Free Press through his publicist. “Jimmy Kimmel and I got to talking, and we wanted to remind everyone that there are real people affected by what’s going on in Detroit, and try to show some of them a good time while we’re at it.”
