Exploring S.D.
The Sioux Empire Fair got a $300,000 loan from local officials who approved the expenditure but who also voted to study whether the Sioux Falls, S.D., fairgrounds could be moved.
Minnehaha County commissioners hired a law firm to look into land-use restrictions and prepare for an appraisal of land at the fair’s present location.
Possible uses for the site include a hotel, convention center or a quarry. As for the money, there’s a hitch: The fair association’s former office manager has been charged with embezzling $250,000 and the loan must be repaid by fall.
