Anschutz Not Interested In U.K. Soccer
AEG is not interested in buying into any English Premier League teams, according to CEO Tim Leiweke, who says it’s not a core business interest for the company.
“Our focus right now is in a different world,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s arenas and it’s content and it’s concerts.”
Leiweke said AEG is more focused on building soccer in the U.S. and wouldn’t want to compromise its good relationship with high-profile European teams, which the company brings to the U.S. to play against AEG-owned Major League Soccer teams.
Leiweke told the Times he wanted to end speculation that AEG would join forces with Arsenal majority owner Stan Kroenke, who also owns the NBA’s Nuggets, NHL’s Avalanche and MLS’s Rapids, all in Anschutz’s home base of Colorado.
