Judge OKs Music Park Opening

A federal judge has refused to delay the Memorial Day weekend reopening of the former Hard Rock Park in South Carolina while a trademark infringement lawsuit proceeds.

U.S. District Judge Stewart Dalzell said in court May 22 that putting the Myrtle Beach park’s relaunch on hold “would be catastrophic and probably fatal to the new park.”

A corporation organized by the park’s original owner has sued the new owners. HRP Creative Services says FPI MB Entertainment hasn’t done enough to change rides and attractions at Freestyle Music Park and is taking advantage of the founders’ creative ideas.

The $400 million Hard Rock Park was the biggest single investment in South Carolina tourism when it opened in April 2008. The park closed in September and was sold out of bankruptcy in February.
