Springsteen’s Final Giants Blowout
Bruce Springsteen has opened a few venues over the years. Now it looks as if he will close one.
During his concert last night at the arena across the street from Giants Stadium – the IZOD Center – Bruce Springsteen told the audience he and his E Street Band “wrecking crew” will be the last music act to play the football stadium before it is demolished after the 2009 NFL season.
There’s just a smidgen of irony in Springsteen announcing the Giants Stadium shows from the Izod Center stage. The Boss and E Street opened the Izod Center – then called Meadowlands Arena – with a six-night stand in 1981.
Springsteen’s last Giants Stadium stand is scheduled for Sept. 30 and Oct. 2-3. Tickets go on sale June 1.
