Bennett’s Cause Of Death Undetermined

Further testing is needed to determine what killed ex-Wilco member Jay Bennett.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says the 45-year-old Bennett was found unresponsive at his Urbana home Sunday and pronounced dead at a hospital later in the day.

Northrup says preliminary autopsy results are pending histology and toxicology tests.

Bennett worked as a sound engineer and played instruments for Wilco from 1994 to 2001.

Earlier this month, Bennett sued Wilco lead singer Jeff Tweedy. Bennett claimed he was owed royalties for songs during his seven years with the group.

Bennett was born in the Chicago suburb of Rolling Meadows and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
