AmEx Doesn’t Love Courtney

Most people have been late on a credit card payment at least once in their lifetimes. Courtney Love has taken late to the next level and now American Express wants the drama mama to pay up.

Yesterday AmEx filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, claiming that the singer owes more than $350,000 in unpaid charges and other fees on her AmEx Gold card, according to Reuters.

The suit says AmEx was forced to turn off her credit card after she “failed and refused” to make payments. The financial services firm is now asking Love to pay up $352,059.67 for the unpaid balance, damages, attorney’s fees and late charges.

TMZ poked fun at Love and her lawsuit by writing an “URGENT MESSAGE” from AmEx to President Barack Obama, pleading for financial assistance from the former Hole singer.

Mr. President:

We are humbled to ask for immediate financial help. Courtney Love is driving us the way of Chrysler and G.M. She has three American Express credit cards and will not pay the balance on any of them.

Centurion Card Account: Ms. Love owes $279,079.68
Gold Card Account: Ms. Love owes $69,245.56
Platinum Card Account: Ms. Deadbeat owes $3,734.43.

We have been forced to file a lawsuit yesterday in L.A. Federal Court, asking for $352,659.67, plus a bunch of costs. We don’t think she’ll pay up, so dude, we need your help.

Sincerely,
AmEx

Pretty funny stuff.

Love didn’t think so and she had her lawyer send TMZ the following statement:

“AmEx knows the claim has no merit. We have told them this for a long time. AmEx’s law policies allowed fraudulent transactions to be charged to my client’s card.”

Love’s lawyer, Larry Fink, told TMZ that he can explain the singer’s $352,059.67 balance – She didn’t make all of the charges. In fact, 104 AmEx credit cards were fraudulently taken out under Love’s name of the name of her business.

Back in February Love was sued for libel and breach of contract by a fashion designer.

Dawn Simorangkir, also known as Boudoir Queen, sued Love because of what she calls several “menacing and disturbing” statements on the singer’s Twitter and MySpace pages, as well as comments left on the designer’s Etsy.com site. The designer also said Love never paid her for work done.

Silly Boudoir Queen, you can’t trust anything Love rants on about on her MySpace blog. Even though Love claims “I am in no way insane or nuts or even very kooky,” don’t buy it!
