Kentucky Rig

Louisville’s Kentucky Center, which houses Whitney Hall and the smaller Bomhard and MeX theatres, is getting a $9 million overhaul that is expected to be completed by 2011.

There are planned improvements to the exterior, lighting, seats, bathrooms, stages and elevators, but the most significant changes will be the sound and rigging.

More than $4 million will go toward the ceiling and a new hydraulic, motor-powered rigging system. Dancers, who have complained about the maple floor on the stage, will get a new one that cost $240,000.
