After local promoter ODC Productions told fans the rapper wasn’t going to perform, the no-show brought on an “audience uprising” that “erupted in rebellion,” according to Celebrity News Service.

So, what does a “rebellion” mean when one is referring to a Canadian audience?

Apparently “several audience members expressed their displeasure by tossing beer cans and demanding refunds,” according to Celebrity News Service. At least three people were arrested on alcohol-related charges.

Nas was forced to leave the audience hanging after ODC told him they didn’t have the funds to pay his entire $47,000 fee.

Craig Cantwell of ODC told CBC News the company had paid the rapper about half of his fee and thought that Lux Entertainment of Halifax, Nova Scotia had covered the remainder of the balance. Turns out Lux didn’t have the cash. Cantwell said Lux was also to blame for not purchasing return air tickets for opening act Kardinal Offishall.

Nas gave AllHipHop.com a piece of his mind regarding the situation. The rapper said he had heard great things about St. Johns and didn’t expect any shenanigans but “was quickly reminded how things like this still happen to people in the game!

“Bad business is bad business! Every now and again artists are asked to travel to another country to do their thing! But instead they arrive and are met by some strange people and instead of doing real business, these “JP’s” (janky promoters) are saying they have insufficient funds!”

After three hours at customs Nas learned the promoter didn’t have his money and that his hotel accommodations had been canceled.

“Now I don’t usually leave my crib unless all the business is handled first. But I love my fans in Canada so I said cool,” Nas said. “But of course it wasn’t cool. … So what we had to do and did was get up out of there. But to all of Canada make sure you know I roll with ya hard!! It’s all love.”

Nas ended his rant with a suggestion: “My advice to wanna be promoters anywhere they are, take business serious. Learn about being professional. Always. It’s very important to be real with people. Don’t continue to pull these 1950 style ways of doing business. Its wack!”

ODC Productions reportedly told local radio station VOCM that fans would not be reimbursed for tickets, according to Globe and Mail.

Nas is set to tour the fest along with Busta Rhymes, GZA, The Knux, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, The Roots, Big Boi and Common. The fest kicks off June 27 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Ill., and winds down Aug. 9 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.
