Eminem In On Brüno’s Stunt
The head writer for the MTV Movie Awards show, held May 31 at Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheatre, confirmed on his Tumblr blog that the stunt was Sacha Baron Cohen’s ass-to-face stunt with Eminem was staged.
Baron Cohen made a grand entrance, flying over the crowd, suspended by wires and appearing as “Brüno,” his Austrian gay fashion reporter character, sporting angel wings, knee-high boots and a thong. A “production issue” lowered Brüno into the crowd, crash landing on top of Eminem’s face.
The rapper, who has been criticized for what some believe are homophobic lyrics, apparently wasn’t a fan of the view.
“Are you f**king serious?” he said, before storming out of the awards.
“Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged,” Scott Aukerman, head writer for this year’s awards, wrote on his blog. “That’s all anyone wants to talk about, so let’s get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then.”
Aukerman’s post has since been removed from his blog. Baron Cohen, Eminem and MTV have yet to comment on the stunt. Word has it Eminem was asked to participate after Paris Hilton refused to have her nose full of news.
Baron Cohen’s “Brüno” film is set to hit theaters next month.
