Host Your Own Mars Volta Listening Party

What would you do-o-o … for a Mars Volta party? If you love the progressive rock band more than a Klondike bar, you have until the end of the day to submit an application explaining why you deserve to host a “Octahedron” listening party in your home.

Octahedron, the Grammy-award winning band’s fifth studio album, is set for release June 23 but 10 to 15 of the band’s biggest fans will have the chance to check out the new tunes before it hits stores by hosting advance listening parties in their homes.

If you’re up to playing host, The Mars Volta wants you to send in an entry explaining why you deserve the honor. The band’s Web site notes that submissions are open to interpretation, including YouTube videos, illustrations or written entries.

One host and guest of their choice will be selected to see The Mars Volta perform “anywhere in the U.S.” (I’m assuming the band is referring to any tour stop in the U.S. The host’s living room is probably out of the question. Although what’s a Mars Volta listening party without The Mars Volta? If you win, go for the living room show!)

Photos from the official listening parties will also be posted on the band’s Web site.

Send in your entries, along with your name and contact info, by June 3 (that’s today!) to [email protected].

The band is scheduled to play a number of festivals this summer including Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., June 13, Roskilde Festival in Denmark July 3 and T In The Park at Kinross, United Kingdom, July 10, with dates on the books through the end of August.
