Elvis Does Amoeba Music

Huh? Elvis Costello doing in-store appearances to push his latest album? What is this world coming to?

But we’re not talking about any record store. On June 22 Costello will celebrate the release of his new album – Secret, Profane & Sugarcane – by doing in-store concerts at Amoeba Music locations in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The San Francisco show at the Amoeba Music location in the city’s Haight-Ashbury district is scheduled for high noon while the Los Angeles Amoeba appearance is set for 8 p.m. that evening. Along with performing, Costello will also sign copies of his new CD. Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale will accompany Costello on both appearances.

But if you can’t go to Amoeba, then maybe Amoeba can come to you as the Los Angeles location streams Costello’s 8 p.m. gig live through the company’s Web site. Amoeba staffers will also post updates throughout the day. When all is sung and done, expect staffers to post video from both gigs on the store’s Web site.

But if the opportunity to see one of rock’s living legends in a somewhat intimate surrounding isn’t enough of a tease for you, Amoeba is also offering special commemorative silk-screened posters made for the event to be given away with the purchase of Secret, Profane & Sugarcane while supplies last.
