Brown Goes To The Supremes

The lawyer for Chris Brown has asked the California State Supreme Court to delay a hearing on the troubled R&B singer’s assault charges.

Brown is accused of allegedly beating his then-girlfriend – singer Rihanna – in February after the couple left recording industry legend Clive Davis’ customary pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, is asking the court to order a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday be postponed, saying he is still trying to gain access to police personnel and investigative records.

The name “Geragos” should sound familiar to celebrity trial watchers. The lawyer successfully defended Michael Jackson in the moonwalker’s child molestation trial.

However, not all of Geragos’ courtroom battles have been victorious. In 2004 he defended California resident Scott Peterson on charges that Peterson murdered his wife, Laci Peterson. Geragos lost that case and Peterson currently has a death-row address.

If the state supreme court denies Geragos’ request, a preliminary hearing will take place on Monday, after which, a judge will rule whether there is enough evidence to send Brown to trial.
