Organizers have announced this year’s fair will include a statue of Jackson. Of course, a statue of the King of Pop isn’t that unusual. That is, unless it’s made of butter.

The statue depicting Jackson in all his moonwalking glory will be displayed in a cooler chilled down to 40 degrees.

According to the Des Moines Register, the moonwalking statue will also serve as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing. Moon landing – moonwalker. Get it?

The big yellow stick will portray Jackson in his young-adult glory. In other words, the 1980s Jackson of Off The Wall and Thriller fame, not the middle-aged plastic surgery aficionado.

“We’re just trying to pay tribute to his contribution to music and dance … as opposed to giving any scrutiny of his life,” state fair marketing director Lori Chappell told the Register.

And if you’re worried MJ’s buttery doppelgänger might get a little lonely in that cooler, never fear. The sculpture will stand right next to another popular statue – the fair’s butter cow.

Jackson performed at the Iowa State Fair in 1971 as part of The Jackson 5. This year’s fair runs Aug. 13 through 23.
