‘Yellow Submarine’ Artist Edelmann Dies
Heinz Edelmann, the graphic designer and illustrated who dreamed up the psychedelic artwork for the Beatles’ 1968 animated film “Yellow Submarine,” died Tuesday. He was 75.
Edelmann died in a hospital in Stuttgart, Germamy. His daugher, Valentine, told the New York Times the cause of death was heart disease and kidney failure.
Although he was best known as the art director for “Yellow Submarine,” Edelmann also designed the mascot for Seville’s Expo 1992 world fair as well as book covers such as the first German edition of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings.”
