City Stages Files Bankruptcy

The parent company of Birmingham, Ala.’s annual City Stages event, after saying this year’s event was the last one ever, has put the final nail into its coffin, filing for bankruptcy protection.

City Stages filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Birmingham July 24, listing debts of more than $1 million and assets of less than $500,000.

The street event, which included Styx/REO Speedwagon and .38 Special, still owes Indigo Girls $22,500 and the Neville Brothers $40,500. Tent, stage rigging, catering and supply companies are owed thousands more.
