Mastodon Co-Headlining With Cartoon Band

The fall concert season just got a little louder with the announcement that Mastodon will co-headline with Dethklok for a 34-city tour of North America.

Yeah, we know what you’re saying. You’re asking how Dethklok can possibly tour because it’s an animated band on Adult Swim’s “Metalocalypse.” After all, wouldn’t that be like The Archies going on tour? Or Josie & The Pussycats?

Never fear, “Metalocalypse” co-creator and composer Brendon Small, along with pro musicians Gene Hoglan, Bryan Beller and Mike Keneally, will bring the band’s music to life every night. The plan is for the flesh-and-blood musicians to perform live, dark-lit, while Dethklok animation and videos run on a giant projection screen.

This won’t be Dethklok’s only excursion into the brick & mortar concert world. The band toured with … and you will know us by the trail of dead in 2007, and with Chimaira and Soilent Green in ’08.

Also appearing on the tour will be Converge and High on Fire.

The first date is Oct. 2 when the tour plays the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Ore. Other stops include Seattle’s WaMu Theatre Oct. 3; Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre Oct. 4; Calgary’s Big Four Building Oct. 6 and Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Center Oct. 7.

The tour also plays Denver at the Fillmore Oct. 10; Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom Oct. 17; Detroit’s Fillmore Oct. 21; NYC at the Hammerstein Ballroom Oct. 30 and Dallas at House of Blues Nov. 11. The last stop on the schedule is Los Angeles at the Palladium Nov. 19.

Ticket pre-sales begin today with general public sales commencing this Friday. For more information, please click here for the Adult Swim Web site.
