Jewel’s Hometown Charity Gig

It’s back to Alaska for singer / songwriter Jewel as the songbird heads north for a fundraiser.

The benefit to raise funds for the Bunnell Street Arts Center “Artists In Schools” program takes place Aug. 19 in Homer, Alaska, at the Mariner Theatre. It’s a solo acoustic gig, with her brother Atz Lee Kilcher also on the bill.

“I’m so thankful for this town and all that I have been able to accomplish because of the support I received as a young and aspiring artist. When I was 15, I was accepted to Interlochen, an arts school in Michigan, to pursue my studies in visual art and music,” Jewel said.

“My hometown of Homer, Alaska, helped me raise the $11,000 that I needed to go. That was a critical stage in my journey that led me to where I am today. I’m happy to be able to give back and help others in this wonderful community. The people here are so talented and gifted. I’m very proud of where my family and I come from.”

Tickets for the “Artists in Schools” concert are $30 general admission, $25 for Bunnell Street Members. For more information, please click here for the Bunnell Street Arts Center Web site.
