The Los Angeles Times reports Leno quipped to a group of journalists assembled for a press tour in Pasadena, Calif., Wednesday, “The network is on its own. Screw them! I’m not here to save them.”

However, today the network confirmed to MTV that the first musical guest will be none other than hip hop heavyweight Jay-Z, whose posse for his performance of his new single “Run This Town” will include Kanye West and Rihanna.

At Wednesday’s event, Leno revealed to the Times that his new show, which debuts September 14, will look almost nothing like “The Tonight Show,” with “one guest, perhaps two, per night and he will generally not use a desk.”

And in a format that sounds suspiciously like “The Daily Show with John Stewart” and “The Colbert Report,” the new program will also feature a team of correspondents that includes not only comedians D.L. Hughly and Mikey Day, but “closet comedian” and “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams.
