MercyMe In Fatal Bus Crash
Christian rockers Mercy Me are recovering after being involved in an automobile accident that killed two people and an unborn baby.
The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday morning as the band was on its way from a show at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Ind., to a gig at Six Flags St. Louis.
According to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, 18-year-old Kara Klinker made an abrupt turn into the path of Mercy Me’s tour bus, killing her 17- and 19-year old passengers and her nearly full-term baby.
The child was declared still born shortly after Klinker, who remains in critical condition, was taken to the city’s Parkview Hospital.
Band members issued a statement to let fans know that they were only suffering from “minor bumps and bruises” and are saddened by the deaths.
“Car just hit our tour bus,” one of the groups members posted on his Twitter account immediately after the accident. “We are ok, but 2 in the car did not make it. The one that did is pregnant. Please start praying.”
Frontman Bart Millard elaborated on the band’s frame of mind later in the day, tweeting, “Been asleep almost the whole day. Was hoping to wake up and this not be real.”
Mercy Me’s Six Flags St. Louis show has been rescheduled for September 5.
